An oil study inspired by Finnish artist Helene Schjerfbeck. I enjoyed her exhibition at the Royal Academy in 2019. Schjerfbeck’s portraits, sometimes imaginary, have beautiful, economical paint work, luminous colour and simplified elegant form. I wanted to see what made them tick. These studies were made at that time and are offered for sale now in a studio clearout.
