(2017) 2022 edition of 50.
23 x 31cm
This is a limited edition print based on an original collage made by me in 2017. This collage is based on an original vintage photographic print of the Landolina Venus. The Venus Landolina was named after the archaeologist who discovered it and is a Roman copy of a Greek era work. She’s a modest Venus, or Venus Pudica, one of a category of Venus ostensibly protecting her modesty whilst simultaneously drawing attention to herself. Comparisons have been drawn between Marilyn Monroe’s famous skirt floating scene over a vent. Here Venus wears an inverted Iris. Irises were associated with death in ancient Greece, but the Victorians associated them with wisdom, hope or trust.
Beautiful giclée print on a smooth textured off-white Hahnemühle paper, including a slim border ready for framing. This velvety matt paper was chosen to compliment the texture of the original vintage collage papers used to make this piece.
